About Hannay Bee

Our Bees
Our bees are honey bees, one species of the approximately 20,000 species found world wide. New Zealand has 28 species of native bees all of which are solitary bees.
Here at Hannay Bee we love our fuzzy little Apis Mellifera workers. We can often bee found talking to them, watching them, photographing them, thinking about them and even holding them.

Our Hives
We currently have ten beehives at two apiaries in the Piha and Karekare area, Auckland, New Zealand. Each hive has a population between 5000 and 50,000.

Our People
At Hannay Bee we are all about family. We first got bees at the request of then 10 year old Max, but we have always loved them. Bees quickly became a family affair despite Bex previously having had some anaphylactic reactions.
Our logo was drawn by Finn when he was four years old and mint green is his favourite colour. Bex has now become known as the 'crazy bee lady' and is slightly obsessive about bees, she even dreams bees.
The whole family can be found engaged in bee activities inspecting hives, planting flowers, chasing swarms and rescuing bees from hollow trees. And of course honey can be found in every room and is eaten straight from the spoon.
